Hoot- N- Holler

My friend told me this joke and I thought I'd share....corny,yes,but funny!!

WHO ARE THE TWO SEXIEST ANIMALS ON THE FARM??

BROWN CHICKEN,BROWN COW~~~(get it bow chicka wow wow...brown chicken, brown cow)

BAHAAAAAA!

still makes me laugh, I am easily amused....

What was that all about??

So yes, even in the holler we do have tv's,hard to believe we are that technologically advanced...we even have indoor plumbing for bout a yer now.LOL. As a busy mama, I usually tiVo my shows, one of being Grey's Anatomy...which last night....RIDICULOUS! I can honestly say their has not been an episode that I disliked, until last night! ALL that SINGING!! If I wanted to watch a musical we would have popped in High School Musical for the hundreth thousand time!! I am not a tv critic....but, if they keep that up the one tv we got down in this holler will be tuned in to something else on Thursday nightS!!:} Just sayin.

Take me out to the ball game!

Softball season has began, well practice rather. My six year old is playing her second year of softball this year and I will say, although I am partial, she is pretty dang good! This, makes me proud, not just that she is good, but she shares my love for softball. I thoroughly enjoy watching her team practice/play...if you have not watched 4,5,and 6 year olds play a sport it is a treat. Usually they are digging in the dirt, off in lala land, or dancing around not paying attention. I love it, it is hilarious! Children are so special and they make our days brighter. Tomorrow we have our first tournament as a team, I am looking forward to cheering my daughter and her team mates on! Of course, I want them to win, because I am rather competitive, but, more importantly at this age I want them to learn and have fun! Go Liberty and Good Luck! And just remember get your glove on the ground and 1st base is this way!! LOL.

Her first Turkey!!

My daughter killed her very first Gobbler at the age of six this past weekend!! Her daddy took her and got to share that special moment with her. Then they came home to show me who was as equally as proud! I have never killed a turkey so I thought it was pretty awesome that my six year old has done something I have not done! She was so excited in a sweet modest sort of way!! And of course that night we fried that delicious wild turkey and enjoyed what our daughter had provided for our table. And if you haven't taste wild turkey you haven't lived, it is mmm, mmm, good!
And after a good day of hunting and a good meal,my daughter ended her day on  this. Dear Lord, thankyou for letting me kill my first turkey...and please let the next one be even bigger,oh, and thanks for letting us eat it. Amen. Sounds like her daddy's prayers...LOL.

Working with the Public

I was working at the pharmacy this week,it was beautiful outside,we weren't busy so I was just staring out the window. When I notice a man get out of his vehicle, this man proceeds to do a rather disgusting thing....he sticks his pinky finger up his nose and flicks a booger on the ground!!! LIKe no one is looking and he wasn't in the middle of town....so what do I do....I have to tell my co-workers about this! No one saw it, but me,so I have to share this umm....gross thing he just did. And then this song pops into my head.....I love Blake Shelton and the tune to "I Want to Know" song  gave me the inspiration...

"Who are you when I'm not around?" "Do you pick your nose, then flick it on the ground?" "I want to know...I want to know.

I am sorry I have two posts about nose picking this week....that's just what kind of week I've had!LOL

I do love this Crazy,Wonderful Life!

Kid's Say the Funniest Things

This is my conversation with my 3 year old (you know the one with the imaginary friend...) on the way to the babysitters this week.

3 year old: "Mama,Mama!!! "I can't pick my nose good..."
 Me:  "What?"
3 year old:  "I can't pick my nose good!"
Me: "Okay, why can't you pick your nose good?"
3 year old: (she sticks up her thumb) "My Mista Thumb is too soft,so I can't pick my nose good!"

All I could do was laugh! Nose picking is gross and I don't encourage it, but all I could do is laugh!
I will just blame it on she acts like her daddy!

Update on Jim!!!

I have written about my daughter's imaginary friend Jim in other posts. But, I just wanted everyone to know that my daughter informed me tonight that Jim has the diarrhea and cough! So we are really hoping Jim gets feeling better and is not contagious! LOL.

And to all a good night...

Introducing Percy~Housewife #2

As I said before,Percy,is blond, in her 50's and she loves laundry, primitives, schedules and shopping. Percy was born and raised pretty much her whole life in the holler. She has been married to her husband Swamper for over 30 years. They have 2 grown children Slim and Sadie.

A typical day for Percy, well, it just depends on what day it is... every morning she has morning coffee time with her mama next door...if it's a Sunday, she will be at church teaching Sunday school,if it's Monday she will be cleaning house, and if it's a Wednesday, she will be keeping grand kids,if it's Tuesday she will be shopping some where guarenteed! So you get the point she runs a tight schedule and she likes it to stay as it is.
She enjoys spoiling those grand kids, too, she has four of them and they are spoiled rotten! She is a grandmother through and through, she spoils them, does everything for them, doesn't ever really scold them for anything and then sends them home! Right now she has Swamper drawing up the plans for them a massive tree house and 2 of the grand youngin's can't even walk yet, moreless climb a tree!  But, a treehouse they will have. Usually what Percy wants Percy gets!
Percy's hobbies include gardening, road trips with cousins, vacations to the mountains and spending summers at the creek!

Stay tuned for the next housewife Dot...she is the Queen of the Holler!

Flossie's Fridays

 As told by Flossie herself:
Today began with all the kids ending up in the bed with me...not that that's a problem because Slim and I haven't slept in the same bed in over a year, probably more...I've lost count. It's not because we are mad or don't love each other,we obviously have no problem having babies...it's just our kids have taken over the bed,so we decided to go to separate rooms in order for everyone to get sleep. Some make think this is weird, but it works just fine for us.

Slim left for work as usual, which left me to get the kids ready, which consisted of just one this morning,Fridays are my off days...well, off as in from the job that I get paid to do! So as I was bringing the 1st grader her clothes, whom we will call Pookie, she looks at me with a disgusted look on her face and says,"Did you just bring me Wrinkled clothes to wear to school?" Which I reply,"No, I didn't!" And she says under her breath and rolls her eyes,"Looks like it to me." Where do six year olds get their attitudes from, I am literally dreading the teenage years! My husband says she gets her attitude from me, but, Whatever, I don't think so!lol.

All the while, I am trying to get the 3 year old to put her clothes on,she finds it hard to do anything for herself.... all she is worried about is chocolate milk, wearing her cowgirl boots and if she can carry her puter(computer)in the car to play with on the ride to school! Mornings are quite chAotic!

I give the baby a bottle, which he'd rather chew on than drink. Throw some clothes on myself, hair in a ponytail and flip-flops on although it is 30 degrees outside. I remember Pookie has a spelling test today and decide I can give them to her on the way to school...don't want to be one of those parents that don't study with their kids!:) I pour some coffee into my camouflage coffee mug and out the door we go!

We study the words, she knows them, thank goodness. We say our daily prayer, with Spongebob playing on the DVD in the background. I let her out at school and then it's back to the holler for me and the other kids!  Friday's consist of cleaning house and today was no different,so that is why I say Friday is not really an off day! Cleaning house is not fun to me,now don't get me wrong, I love to have a clean house...but,the process of cleaning it is not something I enjoy,it's just something I have to do. And when you have 3 year old named, "Chocolate"who likes following you around, because she is just not a self entertained child and baby named " Trapper" running over your feet in his walker, knocking over your Scentsy plug-in with his walker and pulling the vacuum cord out of the wall, again with the walker, it makes for a long cleaning day! Plus, in the middle of all this is,feeding them breakfast and lunch...which,sometimes can be a war with Chocolate who would just drink chocolate milk for every meal. Also, theirs the poopy and peepee diapers. No wonder I have grey hair! Today Chocolate threw her sippy cup, when I refused her chocolate milk and informed me she would just go live with Jim(he's imaginary). I said,"Go Ahead." There is never a dull moment in our household, but now I have to go,because Chocolate has gotten into the M&M's...stayed tuned for more stories from this Holler Housewife and others!

Coyote Huntin~What your CB handle say's about you?

When I first met my husband, I had never heard of coyote huntin! But, apparently in the holler coyote huntin is something that has been passed down from generation to generation! They have coyote dogs, tracking collers, dog boxes and CB radios.I thought only truckers had CB radios, boy was I wrong.... most of the hunters have a CB radio in their trucks and in their homes ...Umm...just because we live in the holler,we have progressed to having telephones, guess they didn't get that memo. And yes,if you were wondering, this city girl has one in her home!!

Anyway, back to CB handles, when my husband and I were dating, I would go coyote huntin with him,you know that was the time when our relationship was all new and I wanted to spend every waking moment with him...my how things have changed.LOL. (I helped catch a dog one time and it drug me down the road so that was pretty much the end of my coyote experience) But, when he would introduce me to someone new or I would hear him talking on the radio he would call them by their handle...here's some examples and I am not making these names up....Chicken Man,Cowboy,Motorcycle Kid,Datsun Boy,Swamper,Wild Man,and Pokie their are a lot more, but we don't have all day. For a long time I did not know some of these men's real names!! Some, I am still unsure about.  And I do not know how most came about getting their name, some are self explanatory though! Also, you must know how to talk on the radio...this is how you address these men when talking on the radio, you say "How bout it?" Motorcycle Kid and then they say go ahead, then you proceed with your conversation. This was so crazy to me back then, not so much now, I do enjoy listening to these men, young and old talk on the radio. I never have to worry about watching the weather if it snows, storms or floods, all I have to do is turn on the radio and Cowboy will be giving an up to min. weather report! LOL. This is entertainment at it's finest and if you want to catch the lastest coyote race, tune in every Sat. and you can here which dog is leading the race and how many coyotes they have caught. I am still not sure about this coyote huntin, they say it is a service to the community, which I understand, but sometimes I think this is a generational excuse for these men to get out of the house.LOL.

COYOTE HUNTIN IN THE HOLLER ~~~ LIFE IS GOOD!

This is quick and easy recipe, great for parties, kids sleepovers,or a quick snack!

Featuring the first Holler Housewife~Flossie

I decided to start this feature on my blog, because where I come from housewives do not act like those woman on t.v. and real life isn't quite that luxurious!! We don't have nanny's,maids or get to go to the spa when life gets stressful. We raise our own kids, clean our own house, and the closest we get to a spa treatment is a mani or pedi at the local beauty college!

This week I am featuring Flossie, she is married,in her mid-twenties and has 3 children under the age of six. She is creative, loves to laugh and make others laugh, very unorganized, and loves spending time with  family!  She loves her husband, Slim, although they are polar opposites...He is quiet, organized and doesn't like crowds....she is not quiet at all, loves to talk and loves being around people, well most people. But,hey, opposites attract, right. Flossie is always thinking about dieting and working out,but that's about as far as it gets. I mean who has time for that!!  One day, those size 10 pants will fit,one day.... and the stretch marks will go away...and she won't have to use Perfect 10 haircolor to cover up those premature grays plaguing her black hair! A girl can dream!

A typical day for her consist of waking up at 5:30am or at least that's what she aims for, most days it's more like 6:00am...she is rushing around trying to get one kid dressed for school and and the other two ready for the babysitter's ,back packs and diaper bags packed, babies fed(which usually her 6 year old is recruited to do),teeth brushed...wondering if she even remembered to put deoderant on,wishing she had washed her hair the night before, instead of letting it go one more day,and listening to the three year old scream "Me Want Some Chocolate Milk!"....all of this has to be done by 7am in order to get all three kids to 3 different location and to work by 8am. Works 8 hours. Picks up the baby,(her husband,Slim get's the two oldest in the afternoons),then it's home,supper,dishes,homework,baths,etc.....this is the life of a Real Housewife!! It's not all Luxury, but there are a lot of Laughs and Love happening here!

The next housewife I will feature is Percy, she's blond,in her 50s and loves laundry, primitives and shopping!

Other great Party Themes!!!

If you read my blog regularly, you know I love to plan parties!! So here are some more ideas to help you with your next shindig!

My co-worker gave me this fabulous idea--A "Let's Take a Dip" Party~~great summer party! Everyone brings their favorite homeade dips~fruit dip, spinach dip, cheese dip, seafood dip, veggie dip, etc. Also, to go along with the theme you can bring summer/beach/swim items~ie.beach towels, cover ups, sunglasses, flip flops etc. if you want to incorporate a gift exchange!

Another idea is a Picture Frames and Pasta party!! Everyone brings pic frames to exchange and a pasta dish to eat! Or Purses and Pasta! The possibilites are endless and who doesn't love Pasta!!

Also, I thought a close friend Cook-Off would be fun! Assign each friend different dishes,as in some bring appetizers, main dishes, sides and desserts! They just make what their very best dish is in the category assigned. You can have different tables set up with signs for each category and put #'s on the dishes, that way after everyone goes around trying them out they can put their vote in a bowl for which one was their favorite! Whoever with the most votes wins and you could give each one cooking themed door prizes~ Old Time Pottery has great affordable cookware, cooking utensils etc. you could give! I think this sounds like a really fun night, with lot's of great food!

I hope these ideas help you with your next party! Please, share some of you own party planning ideas and if you decide to throw one of these themes, tell me how it goes!

Have a wonderful Day!

Let the war over the purses begin....

My Purse and Desserts party went fantastic! We had a great variety of desserts from cheesecake to cupcakes that looked liked coffee cups!! I threw in sausage balls and chips and dip for a little salty.... I had around 22 in attendance,so I'd say a good turn out! We started the evening off by eating and visiting and eating some more,we LIKe to eat round here! I had a couple pre-games in store to play for door prizes. First we played, "Dessert Trivia",with questions like, "What is the main flavor in Tiramisu?" and "If you want a dessert called a Blizzard, what fast food restaurant would you go to?"  Which, down in the holler,we eat Banana Puddin, not so much Creme Brulee! So Aunt Karen won that game and recieved door prize filled with Scentsy products!! The next game we played was "What's in your purse?" Aunt Vicky won that one and recieved a makeup bag filled with goodies! Then the purse game began and just let me tell you, It Was War!!! We all opened a present first, then threw all the purses in the middle and played Dirty Purses, which I guess, is just another way of playing dirty santa...some of the purses were froze before some even got a turn!! Needless to say it was HIlarious! Aunt Kathy will probably never come to my party again, because there was no chance of her getting the purse she wanted and she was late for her card game! LOL. My sister in law brought a purse that was tiny, which is not her style, she ended up with it,no one wanted it...LOL,she said she would just take it back to Target. Nanbran brought a purse from her closet, too funny, she decided to come at the last minute...she went back home with it too! I ended up with an adorable brown purse which I won because of the alliance I formed with my Maw Maw...she ended up with the black one she really wanted too! Yes, I said alliance, you know like Survivor! This was a serious game, purses are a serious accessory and no laughing matter! LOL! It was a wonderful night with friends! My sister in law and cousin Nanbran stayed and helped me clean up,which was almost equally hilarious,we all are mama's now and don't get out much,so we are easily amused...we had no hot water to do the dishes...a raggedy old dust broom and mop to clean the floors, only one wash rag to clean the counters and supposedly the dishes with...but we managed to get the place looking good again. The garbage can outside almost ate my sister in law, which was very funny and then she tried to steal my cell phone, not really, but it did get stuck in her purse during clean up and here we are out in the rain, calling it,searching my vehicle and it is in her purse all along, too funny! I enjoyed hosting this party and I can't wait to plan the next one!!

Twas the night before the Purse and Desserts Party......

I am so very excited that my "Purse and Desserts" Party is tommorrow!! I can't believe it's finally here, I love to entertain! I am pretty well ready to party down,I have my purse and my dessert,so that's a good start. Actually, I have all the party supplies, door prizes and I also have 2 games for my guest to play....other than the actual "purse swap" game. These games are for the door prizes and they also go along with the theme. I am going to do a traditional,"What's in your Purse?" game and a "Dessert Trivia" game!! I hope I have a good turn out, I expect I will, but they are calling for storms,so....hopefully,it doesn't effect the party!! No one wants to be remembered for the girl that had the party that the tornado came and blew everyone away....So Lord willin we will have a possibly rainy, but severe weather free party! Wish me luck!

Holler Baby Predictor

Here is yet another way that you can tell what the sex of you baby will be....this along with the pencil test was correct with all three of mine! A friend of one of the ladies that babysit my kids told me about this! But, this one only works when you actually are prego!

Take the month you conceived and add it to the age you are going to be when you have the baby.
For  example if you conceived In November and you will be 26 when you have your baby....you would add 11+26=37,so that means you are having a boy,it's an odd #,if it's an even # you are having a girl!

Holler Habits

While, I am probably the one of the most Unorganized people that I know...I married a man that probably has the most organized mama I know!! My mother-in-law is a wonderful lady who actually lives right down the road from me,she lives in the bottom of the holler and her mother lives next to her,who is also very organized. So boy did my hubby get a shock when he married me! LOL. Oh,well he love's me anyway!  My mama-in-law's life is a schedule...mine is chaotic!! We joke with her about her weekly routine, but just because we love her and this is what  works for her...

Granna's Holler Habits

Monday-Clean House
Tuesday- Go Shopping and Schedule Appts.on this day
Wednesday-Keep grandbabies( my kids) and cook supper for everyone
Thursday-Clean up house again and keep other grandbaby(her daughters little girl)
Friday-Take Granny to get her hair done and go grocery shopping
Saturday-Free day
Sunday-Church

I am not exaggerating about her schedule,I could not do this, I think about it and wish I could sometimes, but my life is too chaotic and again,I am not organized!!
But,that's Granna's schedule and she's stickin to it!!!
That's the Holler Report for today, have a wonderful day!

Cousin Katie's Chocolate Chip Dip

2 TBSP Brown Sugar
1/4tsp vanilla

Summer Party Planning

This year have toyed with the idea of having a summer party... A Christmas in July Party!!! My mama has a swimming pool and a nice big deck, perfect for a late evening summer party! Menu would probably consist of lots of lite foods, because of the hot weather and trust me in our party of the country the humidity is Crazy!! Anyway, maybe fruit pizza's,veggie pizza's or even a salad theme...fruit salad, pasta salad, greek salad the possiblities are endless!! Fruit Teas are very popular in our next of the woods and are a must at any get together!! Decor would be fun,I would get my daughters small purple christmas tree out and use it for our summer christmas tree and then I would breakout the Christmas lights and string them up around mom's deck! And it would be so much fun playing dirty santa with summer themed items~~so this is definitely something I will have to put together one of these years! Cause you know I love to PaRTy!

Coffee and friends make the perfect blend!~!

i hope this gives you some great ideas for your next summer party!!

AUNT PATSY'S PEANUT BUTTER OATMEAL COOKIES

2 c sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 stick of butter

Bring those ingredients to a boil. Boil for five minutes.

Remove from heat and add 2 cups oats and 1/2 cup peanut butter.stir all together. Drop spoonfuls on wax paper until hardened!

These are awesome,I like them wayyyy better than chocolate oatmeal cookies!!!

Late for church Cheesecake!!

Last Sunday, my children and I were leaving for church....we were actually leaving earlier than usual and actually going to be on time...A true Miracle! But,as I got to the end of my drive way I happen to look at my cell phone, which apparently was in the vehicle all weekend...No Service in the Holler,so cell phones don't do us much good at home! Anyway,I glance down and I have a text from a cousin and fellow church member, reminding me that church dinner was that day and cheesecake would be delicious hint, hint!
So I am whipping the vehicle around and heading back up to the house, while the kids are screaming,"We don't want to miss Sunday School"!! "We're not, we just may be a little late", I replied. "Just give me 5 minutes I yelled," as I ran into the house. So here we go....

1 pkg of cream cheese
1 container of cool whip
2 tsp of sugar
1 prepared chocolate or graham cracker pie crust
About 5 or 6 Reese Cups (that was supposed to be a special treat in lunch boxes that week)

Mix cream cheese, cool whip, and sugar with hand mixer on Med speed.or (in my case high speed because my cream cheese and cool whip neither had time to soften)...Pour mixture into prepared pie crust, then crush and add reese's on top! Normally you would put in the freezer until chilled, but I had to run out the door and put mine in my church's freezer when I got there. Which worked  out just fine!

The Lord must have known I had good intentions that day, because my kids did not miss any of Sunday School and my cheese cake was an absolute hit...one of the younger girls at church told me it was Awesome!!

The Bible and Backroads

First of all. I would like to say I have been raised to love God,seek God and praise God my whole life! So that is where the Bible comes in in this blog. I think for the most in the holler they have been raised to be God Fearin men, woman and children! Whether you go out and drink on Saturdays or cuss like a sailor every other day of the week, in the holler, you believe in The Lord and  don't care for them there crazies with their non-christian beliefs! And I am not sayin it is ok to do any of these things nor does it make it right in God's eyes, but it is how it is! Although, I had always been raised in church,I did like many go through a wild and wooley stage as a young adult, not proud of it,killed that girl long ago,but again,it is what it is,can't change the past. That is where the backroads come in. Like I have said before, I was not use to the holler life, but this ridin backroads was considered a date!  These dates though....consisted of riding backroads, drinkin beer(there was no other beverage of choice) Natural Light or nothin~because you know wine coolers are for city folk...talkin on the CB radio, looking for deer, coyotes or anything else wild that could be shot and stopping periodically,to get out and have a little community cooler break !! Us girls would stand around and talk about the boys, gripe about them or talk abou the new girl or girls that one of the single guys brought along for the ride..LOL. And the boys would stand around and talk about huntin, fishin, trucks, or the new girl/girls that was along...of course their comments about them was usually a little kinder then our comments about them! This was our territory and we didn't appreciate their blond from a bottle hair or their short shirts and mini-skirts! That is not what "we the girlfriends" wore to ride back roads! A pony tail,a pair of blue jeans and a t-shirt were sufficient.  And u know if you mess with a southern girls man..we like to get right with ya about it!  There were many fights had, fist thrown, cussins, tears shed,,and laughs had on these rides. I don't know how many mud holes were gotten stuck in,hills climbed or trucks tore up for figurin you could make it up that hill or through that mudhole?? But,those were some good and crazy memories...I am just glad the Good Lord that I grew up knowin about protected us during all those times and I just pray that my own kids stick to the Bible and avoid the backroads...Hopefully they will, I will just pray for them like all our mama's prayed for us!

Hot Cracker Recipe

This is a great and easy recipe for any event! I know plenty of men who like to make it and of course devour these crackers. I usually serve with Spinach Dip or Chicken Salad!!

2 sleeves of Fat-Free Crackers(they do have to be Fat-free,for the oil to soak in properly)
1/2 cup of canola oil
1 package of Hidden Valley Ranch dry mix
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1 tsp crushed red cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp black pepper

Place 2 sleeves of crackers in gallon ziploc bag, pour in canola oil and shake to coat. Then, add all dry ingredients, shake to coat to each cracker. Put crackers in airtight container and store overnight. Then you are ready to serve! Delicious!!!!! You can also, add more or less pepper to suit your likin! It's also easy to double for larger crowds!
This recipe is great served with my Corn Salad recipe too!

Try it and tell me if you like it!

Corn Salad Recipe

2 cans whole kernel corn(drained)
1 cup mayo (I use Hellman's)
2 cups shredded sharp shredded cheese
1 cup green bell peppers (diced)
1 cup red onions (finely chopped)
1 regular size bag of chili cheese frito's

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl, except for Frito's.  Cover and chill until serving. Right before you serve crush the frito's up and mix in with the rest of the ingredients!!
This will definitely become a family and party favorite!!

Try it and let me know what you think!

Another Adventure with Jim...

My 3 year old tells me that Jim and his family,by the way his mother's name is Gina...Anyway,she tells me that Jim and his family  has gotten our family some surprises,so of course I am curious to hear what they are going to give us! She says he got me a plate...apparently the imaginary friend even is trying to tell me that he notices I like to eat...that's what I gathered from my gift! Uh,thanks?? He got my husband chains...he probably needs some... He got the baby, diapers, the 3 year old, some pull-ups for bed time.(she probably told him to do this, because her plate/food loving mama forgot to get them at the grocery store and made her wear her brother's diapers for a few nights!!) Then he got our oldest daughter 5 barbie dolls! So pretty sure she got the best gift out of the deal! So we haven't recieved the gifts yet....probably will be waiting awhile.... Also, she told me that her and Jim were going to the beach when they got their license's,I asked when was that, she said when they get 5 years old...whew,at least I have another year to worry about that!:) have a great day! By the way Jim,I can lose weight...U will always be Imaginary!!

Jesus loves me this I know!!!

"Little Debbie"...Snack cake goddess or Satan's Mistress??

Little Debbie, Why do you tempt me so...? So many varieties,so many temptations....it probably should be against the law to have that many choices of oh, so. delicious snack cakes! Let's see, you have my personal fav's Nutty Buddy or whatever they are called...don't know for sure, just know they are stinkin Awesome! Then we have the Oatmeal Pies...such an example of classic yummy goodness! My greatest oatmeal pie memory goes way  back when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter and I ate a whole box in one sitting...! See where the Satan's mistress part comes in... Then there are the Swiss Roll Cakes and what more can you say about chocolate rolled up with cream in the center, but YUMYUM! Plus,Swiss Roll Cakes take me back to a very funny story told by my childhood best friend! There are like who know's,a hunderd more varities! yes I know I said hunderd..just for effect purposes! I know some of my family loves the seasonal one's easter eggs,Christmas trees, valentine hearts with all there fresh seasonal awesomeness!(that is a word here in the holler) And I know their was a time when I wasn't so addicted to Little Debbie's one every now and again was sufficient...seems like so long ago now...So I will cast blame on others for my addiction, isn't that what them there addicts do blame it on everyone else! Here in the holler, I soon found out after spending some time here that dessert is part of every meal...ok,maybe not breakfast, nevermind scratch that,Ummm,Chocolate gravy.,That's definitely a dessert! So with all these desserts with every meal, what's a girl to do, didn't want to offend anyone...Yes,yes it's all coming back that is when it started! Sometimes there wasn't a chocolate cake or peach pie after supper,so what do you do,grab a little debbie! And at Granny's there is ALWAYs an oatmeal pie in the cookie jar!! And when she offers me one I have to oblige, these are my in-laws don't want to make them ill! They are also my holler neighbors and you never know when you might need Grannys wood stove when the power goes out, ain't nobody makin her mad!! So as you see I love Little Debbie with her curly hair and freckles on my snack cake box, although she is partly to blame for my weight gain the other half going to my three kids...But, Love her I do! Thankyou Little Debbie, the holler salutes and supports your all american goodies...(hope they are made in America??) Now please excuse me, I have to go finish cooking supper so I can have a dessert!

Here's my new group:L.D.A-Little Debbie's Anonymous
Who wants to sign up? Don't be in denial, admitting you have a problem with snack cakes is your first step!

The Pencil Test..Just Another Wives Tale,I Think Not!

As I have said, I came to live in the holler 7 years ago,but I had dated my now husband for 3 years before we married. I can't really tell you at what time in our relationship that I was told of the pencil test, but I do remember one night at Granny's house(my husband's Granny is Granny to everyone) his cousin said let's do the pencil test on you!! I had no idea of what this test was...but, I said ok. That is when she broke out the #2 pencil,a needle and some thread. She proceeded to thread the needle and stick the tip of the needle in the eraser of the pencil. Then she said she needed my wrist, she held the pencil over my wrist by the needle and then it began to swing horizontally as in from my wrist to my elbow and she informed me that my first child would be a girl, then it went back and wiggled for a sec than swang horizontal again, she said there's your 2nd girl, then it wiggled again, and decided to swing diagonally this time, yep, you guessed 3rd child a boy...but, it did not stop there it went for more horizontal swing which meant child #4 would be another Girl! So thank the good Lord the pencil decided to stop its voodoo swinging and everyone in the whole family told me that it had predicted accurately all of their children...OK,whatever,I thought. But, over the years I have seen this pencil test done many, many times and I have even started doing it on my own family and friends...which by the way I am 2 for 2  so far on using the pencil test to tell my cousins what they are having.  And did I mention my husband and I have 2 girls and a little boy in that order,so far:)

"There was on old woman who lived in a shoe, she had so many children, she didn't know what to do!"

Appetizers and Accessories~~More Party Planning in the Holler

This will be the next project party that I will be thinking and working on after Purse and Desserts is over. I think this will be another spring party idea for next year....but,if anyone likes the idea and wants to try it with their family and friends, here's the plan,so far. You could either be in charge of the food and make all appetizers themed dishes or ask you guests to each bring one! Appetizer must haves here in the holler are: the Ham,Cream Cheese Pickle Rolls that I have already posted the recipe of,Hot Crackers,Spinach Dip,Pigs In a Blanket,Sausage Balls,Chips and Cheese Dip,Corn Salad, and the list could continue on and on....We love to eat round here! So here's some examples of dishes, but I know everyone has their favorites so the sky is the limit! As for the Accessory part of this party I was thinking Sunglasses, scarves, wallets, jewelry, hats anything you use to accessorize with! I would definitely do a price limit, that way all items are of equal value,I usually do $20 that way it's an afordable amount and more people will likely attend. Decor for the party.... I am thinking real Hollywood Glam...but, I always check out sites like Partycity.com for great decorating ideas. Also, the local Dollar Trees you can luck up and find really neat in expensive items. Also Oriental Trade always has neat party stuff and favors!  It's your party and your budget~it doesn't take a lot of money to throw a fabulous and fun party! I think for this party I might try to change up the game some...maybe play Dirty Dice or even play the a Dirty Santa version, but where you  play the whole game without looking at the gifts and only until it's froze in your hand can you reveal what the acccessory is...I hope this is another helpful party idea for someone, that like me loves to entertain. And please I am open and happy to here anyone elses ideas~! Also, if you want any recipes for any appetizers listed above, let me know and I will post them!

"Appetizers are little things you keep eating until you lose your appetite!"  HOW TRUE!

The Adventures of Jim....we are not sure if he lives in the Holler or not?

Jim came into the family I believe it's going on about a year and a half now....he is said to have black hair and red skin and he's a kid....who is this Jim,I am speaking of?? He is my youngest daughters imaginary friend! He at one time lived under our couch, then in the bathtub drain and as of right now he lives with his mama and daddy and some unknown location...well,I guess my daughter knows, but she aint tellin! She talks to Jim while playing and she also blames Jim for doing stuff. But, recently she informed us that she had been on vacation to the mountains with Jim and his family??? So we asked where the rest of us were while she was on the trip and she said we were asleep...her sister then asked her how she got there and without missing a beat she said umm,his mama and daddy drove us there!!! Like we had asked an absurd question. Also, she tells me she likes spaghetti because she ate it at Jim's and she like's cheese cake because Jim's mama fixed it one day when she was other there...where ever there is! So now at least I have solved the mystery of her being such a picky eater and never eating much...SHE'S ALWAYS EATING AT JIM'S HOUSE! lol. For more adventures with Jim stay tuned...

A CHILD'S IMAGINATION,WHAT AN AMAZING THING!!

Ham,Cream Cheese, Pickle Rolls

This is one of my favorite party recipe's...My MawMaw has made it for years!
1pkg of Sliced Ham
1 jar of whole baby dill pickles or regular whole pickles (either will work)
1 8oz pkg of cream cheese,softened

Take 1 slice of ham, spread cream cheese evenly over ham slice, place pickle on top of cream cheese, then roll up ham over pickle. Continue until all ingredients are used. Store in airtight container in fridge until time to serve thEn slice into little round bites!! Too EASy!! And I bet  you can't eat just one! If anyone tries this recipe let me know what you think!!

PETER PIPER PICKED A PECK OF PICKLED PEPPERS...HOW MANY PICKLED PEPPERS DID PETER PIPER PICK?

Purse And Desserts

This is my lastest get together idea that I have came up with! And with it being 2 weeks from yesterday I am getting pretty excited. This time I am not going to have it in the holler, but at a local community building that way more people can attend.  Everyone is bringing a new purse wrapped up to play the game and a dessert to share. We may all go into a sugar coma, but I am going to provide a little salt for a contrast in taste. Salty and Sweet go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly!!  The decor is going to be very frufru, here in the south we love fru fru. Planning on decorating with of course purse themed items, polka dots and bright colors and thinking about adding some feather boas in just for fun. We will have other games like ~ What's in your purse? and How many facts do you know about purses? and  of course, all the door prizes will have a purse theme incorporated into them. I am thinking wallets, makeup bags filled with hand sanitizer, finger nail files, purse mirrors, lipstick etc, maybe even a homeade apron that has purses on it~~haven't got it all perfect yet,but I am sure it will be! I hope anyone that reads this might try this with their family and friends! And I will definiitely give a report of how the party turns out and any of my party planning ideas! Stay tuned for my next idea for party planning in the holler....Appetizer's and Accessories.!

Party Planning in the Holler

Every year in October I have annual event called A Dirty Scarecrow party.I thought of this idea one year after one of my families usual Dirty Santa events during the Christmas holidays. I thought how much fun would it be to have a fall version of  the Dirty Santa game...and so the Dirty Scarecrow was born. I invite all my girl friends out to the house and yes, some even meet and carpool! I am not exaggerating when I say we live in the holler!  Anyway, for my party I always serve taco soup and chili with all the fixins. And although this is my event, here in the holler, any and all the family are willing and excited to participate in the preparation.  My Maw Maw makes her delicious Hot Crackers, Spinach dip and Fruit tea~ The desserts vary from year to year, from my mama- in- law's chocolate oatmeal cookies,my Aunt Patsy's peanut butter oatmeal cookies, scarecrow cupcakes, white trash mix,and last year I had someone actually make a scarecrow cake. One year my mama and I even organized a fall themed candy table, which was a hit! I usually have anywhere between 20 to 30 in attendance. We socialize and eat, then it's Game On! We all bring a $15 wrapped gift (can be Fall themed or not) and draw numbers to see which order we go in. And then the fight begins...I don't know if you have ever been around a Southern woman that has her eye on a purse,a decorative shovel (yes, I did say shovel) or a potholder with matching measuring spoons...well,let's just say, It ain't pretty! LOL Alliances are formed and secret deals are discussed just so you can get the gift you are longing for! If you get the particular item in your hands 3 times,it is froze and it is yours! Of course, it's all in good fun,we laugh, have a great time and then we do it all over again the next year!

"Greater Love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

GOD,DADDY, AND SWEET TEA

I saw this saying on a southern belle shirt...which I have to say are my favorite shirts ever! My husband ask me the other day if I was going to order clothes off the internet, couldn't be something other than a southern belle t-shirt..my response,"probably not!" .lol. Anyway, in my neck of the woods,God,Daddy and Sweet Tea are truely the 3 true loves of a southern girl! We love our God and our religion in the holler! And ain't no one better than, or going to love us more than our Daddy!! And i personally know people that if they don't have their sweet tea, they have a what I would call a S.T.A..... A Sweet Tea Attack!! A close family member and neighbor here in  the holler, actually had one of these S.T.A.'s on a boat in the middle of the PickWick Dam...I wasn't there, but the way I hear it, her head started spinning around and she started spitting out green pea soup!:) So in other words, when a southern lady wants some sweet tea,you better get it for her and Quick! I personally love all three of these deeply My God is an Awesome God, My Daddy hung the moon, and there's nothing better than a big glass of sweet tea on hot day! In saying all this, I will have to tell you...if my  three year old daughter...was to ever tell her 3 loves it would definitely be God, Daddy, and CHOCOLATE MILK!  ~~~~This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!"~~~Psalms 118:24
